Skating is for Fun and Fitness
Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. Over 60 million adults and 9 million children are classified as overweight. An inactive lifestyle is a major cause. More people are spending time watching TV, playing video games, or surfing the internet. Our slogan is get off line and start inline skating.
The US Government states that Americans young and old should incorporate regular physical activity into their everyday lives. Besides building strength and aerobic fitness, regular exercise relieves stress, provides motivation, promotes relaxation, and facilitates sleep. It also reduces the risk of heart disease, colon cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure.
Carl Foster, a Ph.D. in exercise physiology calls skating “the perfect all around sport”, because it builds muscle and gives you a great aerobic workout. In fact, one hour of moderate skating burns between 330 and 600 calories. Skating is a great toning exercise for the hips, thighs and buttocks. It is also a low-impact sport which means there is 50% less shock on your joints than running.
Statistically, skating is one of the safest sports. According to the National Center for Health and Statistics, skating is over 3 times safer than basketball and bicycling and twice as safe as football and baseball. It becomes even safer when you skate indoors in a controlled environment with no outside safety concerns like traffic, rough terrain, and obstacles like cracks and rocks.
The most important thing however is how much fun skating is for all ages. Lots of people don’t exercise because it is boring. Not only is skating safe and healthy, but a great place to get together with your friends or family, or meet new friends, while listening to your favorite music and playing your favorite games.
Come skating today, just for the “health of it”.
